Nigeria governor grants amnesty to prisoners on death row
October 23 , 2012

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, governor of Edo State, Nigeria, has granted amnesty to Monday Odu and Callistus Ikem, who were earlier sentenced to death for conspiracy and conspiracy/armed robbery respectively.

The governor emphasized that his decision was partly influenced by the fact that the prisoners did not take the lives of their victims.

WorldCoalition.org, a group comprising different organizations including Amnesty International, marked the World Day Against the Death Penalty on October 10 this year, making it the 10th time the day was marked for the campaign against death penalty and the call for it’s total abolition around the world.
