actress Ann Rutherford is dead. She was born on the 2 of November, 1920 at
Vancouver British Colombia, Canada to an actress mother former Lillian
Mansfield and father –a metropolitan opera tenor John Rutherford. She started
her acting carrier at an early age with low cost movies like ‘Ghost City’
(1932. Staring Bill Cody and Andy Shuford), ‘The Lonely Trail’ (1936.also
staring John Wayne and CY Kendall), although when she left for Hollywood’s MGM studios
at 1937 she was not a household name then. But that same year though (1937) she landed a role
in a sequel of the popular Hardy movies series ‘You are only young once’ as Polly
Benedict, a role played by Margaret Marquis in the first of the series-“A
family affair’, which made her a popular actress. She went on to feature in 11
more of the series (there are 16 series in all).
best known for her role as the youngest of the O’Hara sisters in the classic
movie ‘Gone with the Wind’, a role which she was said to have won because Judy
garland was filming ‘the wizard of oz’. She has two stars in the Hollywood walk
of fame-one for TV and the other for film.
union with William Dozier the producer of the TV series “Batman” in 1953 lasted
till his death in 1991 as her earlier marriage to David May II, grandson of the
founder of the ‘May Company department stores’ in 1942 which produced a girl-Gloria
May, ended with a divorce on October 7, 1953.
Ann Rutherford died at her Beverly Hills’
home at the age of 94 on Monday night. She was said to be suffering from
declining health with heart problems.She will definitely be missed by all who appreciate her good works
